The history of Old School Acres starts in 1976 when my parents purchased the farm, moved their livestock and machinery from a farm they were renting and began converting the new farm from a dairy setup to one that was suitable for beef and hogs. Decades before the "Angus craze" hit the nation my dad had decided that this was the breed he wanted to raise on his farm. As time progressed a herd of purebred Black Angus cattle was built. Hogs were raised in open air buildings, sheep kept the grass down and chickens roamed free. It was a great place to grow up. As a kid I had the opportunity to learn the value of having fun while working hard. As life progressed for me through college, marriage and the birth of our first kid the farm always stayed a part of my life. I always found time for fieldwork in the spring, haying in the summer and cattle chores as needed. Life was good, but as with anything in life, change is inevitable. After 30+ years of farming in this location my dad passed away after a short battle with cancer. My dad loved every day of farming that he had, no matter how tough the work was or how bad the weather was. In this day and age it is rare to find someone that works the same job for 30 years and enjoys every minute of it. Through the early years of living on the farm my parents definitely instilled in me the value of hard work and the ability to enjoy the simple things in life. Today my wife and I run the farm on a smaller scale and are working to instill these same values in our children. We are very appreciative that we have the opportunity to take over the family farm and could not imagine a better place to raise our children. We welcome you to visit our farm, see our farming practices, and talk about why we choose to farm in the manner we do.
